This webinar discusses the enduring place of Hussain bin Ali as a symbol for justice, liberation and sacrifice in the Muslim literary, historical and theological tradition.
In this presentation, I will explore the historical, spiritual, political, social, and inter-religious discourses that emerge from this seventh century episode which are relevant to contemporary concerns for peace and justice.
The talk discusses the rights that were guaranteed to women by the Quran, premodern Muslim women who exercised and defended their rights, and how Muslim women gradually lost the rights given to them by Islam and what Muslim women and their allies can do to regain their rights.
